Bezigrajski Dvor, Ljubljana, Slovenia

(Bežigrajski)
Bezigrajski Dvor is a nice restaurant and pizzeria, featured as a place that has public WLAN access. Unfortunately their website http://www.b-dvor.com/ does not work. It is located in business complex area called Bezigrajski Dvor. "They serve one of the best "pljeskavica" in Ljubljana", commented Matjaz Filo. There's a salad on the menu that bears the name of the place and it well deserves to do so.

(Matjaž) Matjaz Filo - working for
Gimnazija Bežigrad (GIMB), maintaining highest quality of IT infrastructure for this top quality high school in Slovenia. As they say: "Free is almost cheap enough". GIMB is a proud member of International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. He was born in Maribor, now lives in Ljubljana, with his wife and two kids. He is an avid cook and culinary expert and apart from doing his family cooking, he also does the all essential purchasing of ingredients. His other great passion is windsurfing. His mission is to get IT infrastructure in Slovenian high schools to highest level possible.

Windmill storm proof lighter - essential for windsurfing smokers :) Zippo apparently is not really storm proof, but only windproof and good for warming a meal in the military.

Pri Vodniku, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Pri Vodniku - recently opened higher class restaurant, on Vodnikova street, just outside of center in Ljubljana. A recommendation. Named after famous author Valentin Vodnik.

Natali Bezan (Bežan) - working for
Linea Directa, developing direct marketing business in technology sector in EMEA region. Helping big IT companies reach larger number of partners and customers. Her roots are Prekmurje, but she was born and raised in Ljubljana. She's related to architect Marjan Bezan. Graduate and post graduate (soon) at EF, as a student worked at Tobacna - promoting unhealthy living ;), at Solos (back office job), went for 2 months to India, came back and via Adecco found job at IBM. It was a rather interesting story: 7AM she came home from a party, 8AM received a call from Adecco, 11AM had the interview at IBM PC division and landed the job the same day. As IBM PC division was sold to Lenovo, she left Lenovo to join Linea Directa. She likes traveling very much (India, Morocco, Turkey, ...), she was an active acrobatic rock'n'roll dancer until she got injured, loves adrenalin and will start jumping from airplanes soon, but hates speed driving. My name is red by Orhan Pamuk is the book she adores, while finding Carlos Castaneda also intriguing. One day she will significantly improve situation in orphanages all around the world, while her motto remains "carpe diem".

Fabulous look of the cake was matched by its taste.

Right next to the restaurant there's a not so common scene in urban cities: wild animals in a private garden. Prison?

Stari Kovac, Bovec, Slovenia

Stari Kovac is a very popular place in Bovec - good pizzas and other food. A recommendation.

Roald Bruil a.k.a. Roli - working for Aktivni Planet in Bovec as a rafting and kayaking guide, doing his best to provide safe and adventures whitewater experience on beautiful Soca river. He is a very interesting person, born and raised in Groningen in Netherladns and lived in a lot of places so far. His wandering soul to Spain, California, Colorado and for the last couple of years he's been in Slovenia: Bovec and Ljubljana. His great-great-grand father was a bicycle mechanic. That means something in Netherlans - the land of bikes. Many countries, many cities, many jobs: grape picking in Spain, trying not to damage too many packages at Deutsche Post, fixing cars and selling them, real estate cold calling in hot California, working at water purification plant, ... Besides all the sports he is doing as part of his job, he also climbs and does mountain biking and downhill. There is a big IBM site in Boulder in Colorado. Sitting with him in Bovec places is really interesting: everybody knows him here. "As soon as your aspirations and dreams are finalized, you are already limiting yourself. Open end is the name of the game."

Dog Jacques that he found in Ljubljana.

If there are no rooms avalable, one should not have FREE sign hanging. Stari Kovac is not paying attention. In the middle of August there are no rooms available in Bovec - it's top season (and I asked, of course).

Airport Bovec, Bovec, Slovenia

The only flying Antonov An-2 in Slovenia is in Bovec from July 23 till August 20. Her (yes, it's a she) name is FATAngie or just plain FATA and her mission is to fly jumpers and skydivers high above Bovec. Powered by Paranoia skydiving school.

(Aleš) Ales Debeljak a.k.a. Debeli - as the big boss of Paranoia jumping and skydiving school, he is realizing people's dreams to fly. Known as the alma mater of jumping and skydiving wannabes in Slovenia was born in Ljubljana and raised in Ribnica and Novo Mesto where he also started his skydiving career. There is another Ales Debeljak known in Social studies circles, but is not related to Debeli. Debeli almost finished FDV and was active in photography. What he does is his life. He has more than 3500 jumps already and only very recently has had to land with the reserve parachute - skydiving is statistically very safe sport. With extra time and money he would do what he does: teach people how to jump and fly and maybe and return a little more to his love for photography.

This is what happens to you if you spend too much time with Ales Debeljak. You lose ground and start to fall :)

A skydiving instructor, a pilot and a skydiving wannabe deep in skydiving theory. Beer?

Okrepcevalnica Trzin, Trzin, Slovenia

Okrepcevalnica Trzin served a a substitute, since the original restaurant was closed. A place not really worth mentioning a lot. Simple. Unknown. With a reason.

Erik Panic (Panič) - working at Canyon division of Asbis, where his stakeholders are relying on his renown respect for deadlines in information and goods delivery. Born and raised in Ljubljana, with Croatian roots from Medjimurje. His professional career has always been in retail and distribution: from Bof, Big Bang, Baumax to Asbis and Canyon. He is finishing his study at Doba, and is very active in bicycling and triathlon. He has been twice to Loveparade (in Berlin). Interestingly enough, his latest book was about IBM: Father, Son & Co. A Nikon camera serves him well and makes good photos for him. His sister is a women basketball coach and with extra time and money he would help women basketball in Slovenia and in Europe reach higher levels.

Wood is the word here.

PST, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Change Management. We were supposed to go on a Blog lunch in Stara Ljubljana. Change of plans. Now we were supposed to go for a Blog drink at Laguna Resort in Ljubljana.

Change of plans again. Now we were supposed to go on a Blog run at PST (The Path of Remembrance and Comradeship), a very good, long walking/jogging track around Ljubljana. Change of plans again. We ended up eating private BBQ dinner and drinking beer. After all, not bad at all.

TS - working at Novartis LSC (IT) department, making sure that SLA contracts are in place for their regional Lek service users, while also engaging in investment opportunities that will make his later life more enjoyable. Born and raised in Gorica, now lives in Ljubljana. He is related to Slovenian actress Stefka Drolc. FE B.Sc., EF M.Sc. While he had several student jobs - from Petrol gas station boy, cutting meat at MIP and being a tourist guide for Collegium - one of the most interesting was vallet parking at HIT in Gorica - they got to drive Lamborghinis and Ferraris to a distant parking lot and back - full speed, of course :) When he got serious he worked at Spica, IBM, SRC.SI and now Novartis. He likes traveling, snowboarding, tried golf, was training judo for 8 years (one of the best lessons is to know how to fall properly, which servers him now also with football), mountain biking, running and seayaking (kayak for open seas - Mambo Sit On Canoe). One of the last unfinished books he is stil supposed to be reading is Mavericks at work. He also recommends Hello Laziness. He generally likes horror movies, but was a little shocked by Saw III. Given loads of money he would invest into space travel, aiming at making teleporting possible. Playing with and finishing the idea of going on a prolonged (at least 6 months) travel around the world.

PST - 33 km long walking/jogging track around Ljubljana runs along the course of the barb wire fence which surrounded Ljubljana during World War II (from 1942 onwards), when the Italian and later German occupying forces tried to prevent contacts between the city and its hinterland.

Roža, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Roža bar in Stara Ljubljana on Židovska street. Unfortunately no food. Many restaurants are closed during the summer and the ones that remain open are crowded with tourists - one is forced to seek less crowded places couple of streets away.

Ana Ravnikar - works for
Atlas Express in Ljubljana office, making sure that frequent business travels of IBM, Microsoft and other big global companies personnel are planned and realized frictionless. While she is finishing her study at Turistica and booking flight tickets at Atlas, she is also dancing at Obsession with passion. She is half Dalmatian and has three sisters. She's tried several jobs while studying: waitress, hostess, promoter, but never tried to be a stewardess. Besides dancing, her passions are also snowboarding, in line skating and she's also known to be a bit of a party animal. Air Babylon is a book she would recommend and she likes horror movies, but is very arachnophobic. Spooky :) If given the possibility, she would dance her life away. When dancing rumba, one needs to act as being in love.

Odstavimo Mateja = Let's fire Matej. And I have not even been given the position yet. Ljubljana streets are full of surprises.

Spajza, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Spajza (Špajza) is a very good restaurant in Ljubljana. Among many other publications and web sites it is also featured in New York Times.

Dejan Dzananovic (Džananović) - co-founder and manager of VGmania, providing enjoyable and affordable travel to Italian youth, while also engaging in other investment opportunities. Born and raised in Novo Mesto. Father's family was from Gracanica - Dzananovic is a rather big retailer in Bosnia - not related to Dejan. He lives in Ljubljana and spends some time off in Basanija and Vinji Vrh pri Smarjeskih Toplicah. Graduated at EF where he is also on post graduate study. Tourism is in his blood all the way: he worked for Royal tourist agency, founded Lion Travel agency, managed AP Turizem agency, worked for CMT and with Miha Valentincic started VGmania. He played serious basketball (when 15 years old he was on Krka team) and among other sports football is also his passion. During Ten-Day War in 1991 he was in JNA in Mali Losinj and deserted immediately. He reads several books in the same period and latest one were Why We Want You To Be Rich by Trump&Kiyosaki, Guerrilla marketing and Foucault's Pendulum. He has a lovely daughter named Eneja. My cousin. A friend of his, when given a heavy menu in a restaurant, asked the waiter "Is this a reading club or a restaurant. Please bring me the best you have and take away this book."

A very cosy interior in Spajza. Chic rustic. A definite recommendation.
