Eating out and writing about.
Interesting places, interesting people, interesting conversations.
Blog Lunch. Blog Dinner. Blog Drink.
Always new people, always new places.
One of rare Agip Gas stations. Unfortunately they ran out of Loacker wafer biscuits. The lovely young sales assistant made the disappointment almost bearable :)
Pizza No.27 ... a recommendation.
Loacker - supposedly the best wafer biscuits ever - by David's opinion.
Caneloni and French Salad. Not that good, but rare on the menu and therefore sought after.
Breza is a so-so, mid-low grade place. Talk a lot and don't mind the details and time will pass :)
David Vidmar - widely recognized .NET (Microsoft Development Technology) expert in Slovenia, at the moment likes Adacta and therefore works for them. He was just about to start his own company, but dislikes the day-to-day admin routine of a CEO and manager of a company. He wants to be a tech guru and a CTO. A native from Celje, recently moved to Soncni Dvori in Grosuplje. He had good intentions to finish FRI and to this day it still remains an open chapter. As he left his previous company the word was around that he's on the market and received numerous invitations. He had several interviews and in not a single one was formal education even mentioned. So much about Faculties. He worked for Kompas Xnet, Ixtlan Team, Evolve and now Adacta. His R&R is comprised of keeping si.blogs idea alive, sailing (he is also a skipper) and indoor soccer. With extra time and money he would buy good people and do the same as he does now: realizing ideas, but in those circumstances in his own name and for his own account.
Healthy eating place. Not entirely Vegan though. They do ask you explicitly if you would like sour cream in soup. Vegan = also avoiding dairy products. ... anti establishment ... Company that is running Ajdovo Zrno is Satwa d.o.o. Satwa = Sattva = Goodness Satwa = an area within city of Dubai.
Klemen Kobilica - helping provide answers to complicated questions from IBM Information Management software area. Either himself or with his wide spread team. Kobilica is a grasshopper. Kobilica or Kobilca. Actually both. His father was renamed from Kobilca to Kobilica. School's admin staff thought it was spelling mistake and changed it. Famous painter in Slovenia was Ivana Kobil(i)ca. Klemen believes he is somewhat connected to her. 5000 SIT bank note has her picture on it. As Slovenia is adopting EURO we are losing Kobilca, too. Klemen graduated in Physics and soon joined IBM where he was one of the first members of Software Group. His R&R spans Music listening and also making, skiing and traveling. He used to be an active DJ Kobilca in Radyoyo team. With extra time he would travel more and read more books. And maybe try DJ-ing once again. Way to go!
Bostjan (Boštjan) Jarm - doing his best to keep Bayer's IT in top shape. His FOV Faculty chapter is still open. He grew up in Ivancna Gorica. His R&R (Rest andrecuperationn - U.S. Military expression) activities are: scuba, kayak, movies, books (among them Chomsky and philosophy) If he would have all time&money in the world he would be writing books.
We had Blog Tea in this new place in this new building: Modra Hisa Many company found their refuge in this new piece of architecture, among them: Cisco, consulting company Socius and bank ZvezaBank (they just celebrated their moving in).
(Boštjan) Bostjan Gabrijelcic (Gabrijelčič) - taking care of IBM Tivoli software sales in Slovenia. We were forced to sit in the "smoking lounge" of the pizzeria. 87% of all lung cancers are caused by smoking. 85% of lung cancer patients die of it. More than 140.000 die of lung cancer every year in USA alone. http://thescooponsmoking.org/xhtml/effects/lungCancer.php (One can say that I generally don't like smoking) We briefly discussed the situation with commuting and work from home and mentioned DetelFone the new virtual telecom provider with includes Skype-like service. http://www.detelfone.eu We've also spent some time discussing how IT vendors need to be talking more to LOB and C-level people. Boštjan was FE student with major in electronics. He had a stint in IBM as a student, then worked in automation industry for Metronik, Liko Pris and finally joined IBM Software Group. His free time are mostly spent with his two kids: 2,5 year old boy and a brand new 0,5 year daughter. This time Parma presented us with two failed attempts by newbie waiter. Wrong salad, wrong pizza. Printer paper ran out and pizza was not ordered!?!
First time I've seen pizza with pindjur on it. (The pizza on the above photo does NOT have pindjur on it) Pindjur is similar to, but is NOT Ajvar. The service was very pleasant.
Klemen Bacak (Bačak) on the left and Andrej Nadrah on the right, are guys that I know quite well and quite a long time. Andrej Nadrah is taking boxing lessons. Slovenian best boxer Dejan Zavec signed a contract with Don King. Article about Dejan zavec in newspaper Vecer: http://www.vecer.si/Vecer2006/default.asp?kaj=6&id=2006040304110113 This article can be "computer-read" to you. Text-to-speech. Zavec = Zajec = Rabbit .. in Pomurje language http://www.pomurje.net Slovenian company Cetis will set up a factory in Gabon. http://www.cetis.si/index.php?jezik=sl¢er=noviceBIG.php&idN=4&idPN=18&idNOVICA=173 Andrej Nadrah knows the future Managing Director (MD) of that plant. Andrej worked for Secom, Ming, IBM and is now CEO of Halcom Svetovanje (Consulting). If you are in need of e-banking solution, he will be able to help there. http://www.halcom.si/index.php?section=29 Besides boxing, he is also learning to play guitar and increasing his chances to run a full length marathon. If he would have all the time in the world (and money), he would spend it with his three kids and golf and skiing.
Klemen Bačak's ancestors came from Ceske Budejovice where also Budweiser came from. http://www.c-budejovice.cz/en His Grandma and Grandpa met in prison. He made his first money writing and selling his own software. Later he worked for Roling, Foras, Mikrostar and now he is at IBM, being one of the few real experts on IBM Storage Systems in Slovenia. Time, money, hamsters and his two lovely daughters aside - he would still fiddle with hi-tech stuff and help people get out of gizmo nightmares. If SecondLife will not swallow him, he will also devour a lot of movies as he has so far.
Saso Maric (Sašo Marič) - a real geek in a very positive sense. Anything you wanna know about Nokia phones, iPods, PDAs and similar gadgets, you ask him and you will get an extensive elaboration on that subject. "A lot of the leading edge technology in today's mobiles is from HTC " "Nokia Series 80 is all but dead" He recommends This Week in Tech = TWITOn TWIT you can listen to tons of interesting and useful stuff from IT world. Saso's Blog: http://mobilenomad.blogspot.com/
San Vinzenzo is quite a small pizzeria, but has a LCD screen. Slovakia and Germany were playing qualifying football match. Slovakia lost to Germany 3:1
Ruzinov is the residential part of Bratislava. A lot of hard working people from Bratislava spend there evenings and nights here, before going in the city to work for increasing numbers of multinational companies again next morning. Lower taxation systreallyaly is attracting a lot of attention from the corporate world. Bratislava made a wise move.
Nothing beats a big cold beer after a long Monday.
Gregor Loncar (Lončar) - leading IBM's Software Group in Slovenia. A demanding job, considering a very big number of new people in the group and tough targets to reach. Gregor worked for Slovenian Post, Konus and Kovinotehna before he joined IBM. His parents met half way from each other - in Celje: mother from Trieste and father from Ptuj. Gregor is a long distance runner (has done several marathons in his life) and has a distinctive taste for music. When he will not work for money anymore, he will spend time painting, cooking in his own restaurant and sailing.
Hot Horse is a very popular fast food chain of restaurants in Ljubljana. Synonym for after-party-early-morning burgers.
Serving also students that can pay with subsidized meal vouchers - študentski boni.
Pavle Rebic (Rebič) - an expert for providing IT solutions to Telecom sector. He worked for Iskratel and now his Telco customers are benefiting from IBM end-to-end solutions, due to his drive and ambition. He's a native Ljubljana citizen and decided not to pursue post graduate study in Slovenian Faculty of Economics. I must agree with his decision - too little valued add. If he would not have to work for living, he would build not-for-profit holiday resorts and activities centers for older people. Better society, better world.
The most popular Horseburger has - you guessed right - horse meat in it.
On the way to Trubarjeva street, passing Preserenn Square ...
This is my very first Blog post from Virtual world. Vastly popular virtual world is called SecondLife (SL) (http://secondlife.com) It has population of over 800.000 and rising. Being consistent to my Blog's mission, I had a Blog Dinner in SL with my friend from RL (Real Life). The place was nicely decorated with groovy music. It was a solely audio-video experience with no taste and other feelings. Yet.
I believe we were having Prime Rib dinner. Medium done. As if one could tell :)
If you will ever come to SecondLife, my name is Matej Xi.
AteljeCaffe is a pretty new chic place in Ljubljana. Somewhat weird, but cool enough website. It's good that the serving ad eating itself is made in real brick-and-mortar life. Recommendation.
Chinese salad. At least that's the name under which they served us this dish.
Niko Slavnic (Slavnič) - a very interesting person with wide range of activities going on in his life. He was one of the few people that I need not explain the whole idea of my Blog Lunches. He knows marketing and networking very well. More about him and his skills you can see at his company's website: http://www.iqbator.si/
We tried this strawberry flavored wine for the first time. Interesting. Niche. You can buy it from these guys here: http://www.mengo-trade.si/
Domen Rojnik - Business Developer at MA&L. Among other things MA&L has Matrix brand name in Slovenia. If you are an OEM producer anywhere in the world and want to penetrate Slovenia and Balkan region thru Matrix brand name, he's the person you want to know and talk to. If you are a retailer in Slovenia and Balkan region and want to increase your sales with adding Matrix to your portfolio, again, Domen is the guy you want to know. Matrix is a brand which rising fast in Slovenia. With Domen we used to work for Allied Domecq, promoting brands like Canadian Club, Ballantines and Sauza ... and having loads of fun while doing it. Good times.
